spring is my absolute favorite time of the year. (fall is my second favorite ;)). new life. bright colors. growth. fresh air. sunshine. storm clouds. rain puddles. flowers (of course!)..and green grass.
the sky has this blue color that is unmatched any other time of the year (*here in Tennessee)…its just stunning. the sound of lawn mowers, the smell of mulch and the taste of food on the grill fills the air. i just love it. i love that the crisp air of winter keeps the morning air fresh, the bugs aren’t out and the weeds haven’t taken over…YET. πŸ˜‰ and because I just love it all, we’re dedicating a whole segment (or as long as it takes) to photographing the wonderous sights, sounds, smells, textures and tastes of SPRING. and for extra motivation–we will include some prizes.(if that doesn’t get your attention, i don’t know what will) haha!! the psychologist in me wants us to get our emotions involved here. i want to FEEL what is happening in my photography and I want you to feel it in yours too. taking pictures that are beautiful requires much more than just a pose and good light. i want to capture images that give me chills…in a good way of course. πŸ˜‰ Are we ready? Lets do this thing:

rules: participate and have fun! leave comments and vote on the pictures that you love. encourage each other.
equipment: I don’t care if you use your iPhone…just something that takes a picture. i mean it! this is not an equipment competition.
assignment: we’ll start with the most direct sense for photography: SIGHT. πŸ˜‰ for the next week i want you to get pictures of your favorite sights of spring. and i will leave that for YOU to decide what you want to capture. πŸ˜‰
email them to me: at info@priddysweet.com. include your name and a short description of your entry.
ORRRR upload them to facebook with a description on the priddysweet. portraiture. wall. (please don’t overload my PERSONAL wall with photos! lol!!!)
how it works: i will look at each photo, give every one of them an entry number and post them all here on the website (you’ll be famous!) over a few days {those of you who follow The Pioneer Woman…it is sort of similar to her assignments! go check her out! and join her photography assignments group on flickr too! she’s so inspiring…you’ll love her}. Then, we will vote on them as a community in the comments section below the posts. Yes, you can recruit votes (by sharing the link to the page by email, facebook, twitter…whatever). I knew you all would like that. πŸ˜‰ you competitive people, you… The catch is that only ONE picture of yours will go on the site each round (there are 4 rounds for each assignment–one each day from Mon-Thursday). But that means you can send me up to 4 photos total for each week (it equals 4 entries for you in the contest) only one will be posted on the website each day. We will start collecting votes on Friday and the results will be posted the following Monday! Is all of this clear as mud?? good.Β Β So get out, take some spring pictures, pick your 4 favorites! and start sending me your entries now. I’m so excited to see what you all come up with.Β The first round of pictures will go on the site on Monday! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate. We are here to inspire one another. πŸ˜‰
THE PRIZE: a $25 gift card to Target! ready. set. GO!

tips: remember…use your camera settings (that we just learned about for 2 days!) if you need them. MACRO is a good place to start for close ups! HAVE FUN!!!

Not interested in participating but still want to win a prize?? Or want a way to win an extra prize?? leave a comment on the posts each day AND do ONE of the following:

1. follow me on twitter(@priddysweets) and tweet Β a link to the blog page.

2. follow me on facebook Β (priddysweet.portraiture.) and post a link to the blog page.

3. write a post on your blog page about our photography assignment with a link to the page.

(make sure you leave a comment here on the website so i can put your name in the entry pool!) each day that you retweet, repost or blog, you will get an Β entry for a chance to win a $50 gift card to Pottery Barn! (just make sure you tell me when you do!) πŸ˜‰ winner to be announced next Friday. good luck! and thanks for helping spread the word!

5 Comments to feature friday: spring time photography

  1. I can’t wait to see all the pictures!

  2. OK, you’ve inspired me to pick up my camera and have some fun! It’s unfortunate that work too often gets in the way of one of my favorite hobbies. By the way, do you swap out camera lenses frequently, or do you have a favorite all-around? Thanks!!

  3. I’m so glad, Beth!! I swap out between my 18-105mm which was my stock lens and my 50mm f1.8. I prefer the 50mm 1.8 right now. πŸ˜‰ its kind of my sweet addiction. I hope you’ll get your camera out and take some spring pictures to post on the website!! stay inspired! πŸ˜‰

  4. Those are some tremendous photos, wish mine were that competent!
