Inspired

This week in my inspired series I want to feature a very special photographer whose work I have admired over the past year and I’m just giddy to share with you all. Her name is Katy Southern and in addition to sharing my new-found occupation, she is also a sorority sister of mine from UT. Her love for the Lord is awesome and its so inspiring to see her talents being used to share His love with others. Recently she took a trip to Honduras. Prepare to get goosebumps…

“We recently traveled to Siguatepeque, Honduras to visit our friends Israel and Hollie Holliday. They are serving as missionaries, with their four children, through Providence World Ministries. Israel, is the director of La Providencia, where they currently have two orphan homes, a school that educates at-risk children, and a medical clinic serving the community. To learn more about Providence, please visit their web site: www.providence worldministries.org. The purpose of our trip was to provide photographs to be used in promotional materials, and to do portraits for the orphan homes at La Providencia. I have hopes of each family hanging a picture in their home as a reminder of God’s providence in their lives, and as a visual reminder to the orphans that they are now part of a family. It was a joy to photograph the orphans, they were more precious than I ever could have imagined. The blessing did not end there. I also had the privilege of taking school pictures, and my favorite part of the trip was going into the village of Aguas Del Padre and offering family portraits.

The families were thrilled at the opportunity to be photographed. They all put on their best clothes, and chose their favorite spots around their home in an effort to present their best selves. We left from each visit with tokens of their gratitude; they gave us bananas and plantains from their trees, molasses from the sugar cane mill, coffee, and blessings. copyrightkatysouthern4
We are honored to present the families with portraits they can be proud of.”

To learn more about Portrait of Providence, and to help put more portraits into the hands of the families, please visit Katy’s website. She has a beautiful gallery featuring many MANY more of her stunning images and information on how you can help. Thank you, Katy, for sharing such a WONDERFUL project with us!
