Airplane lands at twilight. f/8.0, 30s, ISO 250, 98mm

photography is a balance…of light and contrast, shutter speed and aperture and most importantly: its a balance in composition. If an image is unbalanced in composition, you see it immediately. In life, however, that very unbalance can stay in hiding awhile. Life gets busier, menial tasks get overwhelmingly “important” and the balance can get thrown (way) off. I might dedicate myself wholeheartedly to my work, then forget about the laundry until its up to my hips and blockading the hallway. Or fill up all of my time becoming the next Martha Stewart and forget to place client image orders. Success in one area at the expense of the rest is no success at all. There must be balance. I cannot be perfect at all things. And the more I embrace this, the happier I actually feel. Life isn’t perfect. Why should I have to be?

How do you strive for balance?
